_positions Lecture with Allen & Cohen In-Person
The Architecture Department invites the GSD Community to _positions Lecture with Allen & Cohen.
Where do you stand in the field of architecture?
“_positions” is a series of conversations convened by the Department of Architecture at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design aimed at revealing the positions – temporary, relational, and self-conscious – taken by players on the field of contemporary architecture. Participating GSD faculty and invited guests are drawn from all facets of the discipline – architects, designers, historians, scholars, theorists, technologists, and those in other allied fields. The notion of relationality supersedes any fixed number of speakers. All speakers are asked to discharge the same task: share three projects that correspond to the development of your position over time.
Featuring Stan Allen & Preston Scott Cohen.
Stan Allen is an architect and was George Dutton ’27 Professor of Architecture at Princeton University from 2002 – 2025. In 1991, he established an independent practice as an architect, and since that time has pursued parallel careers as an educator, writer and architect. His practice SAA/Stan Allen Architect has realized buildings and urban projects in the United States, South America and Asia.
Preston Scott Cohen is the Gerald M. McCue Professor in Architecture and Director of the Master in Architecture II Program at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. He is also founder and principal of Preston Scott Cohen, Inc. of Cambridge, MA. The architecture of Preston Scott Cohen encompasses diverse scales and types of buildings including houses, educational facilities, cultural institutions, and urban designs for private owners, institutions, government agencies, and corporations.
