Archives Party 04: Architecture in Black

Archives Party 04: Architecture in Black In-Person

We’re excited to announce that to celebrate Black History Month the Frances Loeb Library’s Archives Party 04: Architecture in Black will be held in the Special Collections Reading Room on Thursday, February 20, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, and will be hosted by Tyler White (MDes|MUP ’26) and Michael Anthony Bryan II (MLA ’26), in collaboration with AASU and AADN (African American Design Nexus), and supported in part by the Racial Equity and Anti-Racism (REA) Fund awarded to Tyler and Mike.

This Archives Party's hosts propose going to the source of cultural production within Black communities to understand how Black GSD Alumni have conceptualized, devised, and produced Architecture from and within Blackness. In this party Tyler and Mike invite participants to engage with materials in Special Collections: the journal AppendX: Culture,Theory,Praxis (edited by Black scholar Darrel W. Fields and others in the 1990s); the GSD theses From Kemet to Harlem and back by Audrey Soodoo Raphael, and Taking a Riff by Nathaniel Quincy Belcher; and with additional Black design materials, we will engage in an interactive dialogue and reflection on specific modes of doing Architecture in Black.

Space is limited to 15 attendees (if we have a long waiting list we will split the session into two one-hour sessions). Open to all students, staff, and faculty from the GSD.  Registration is required and will open Monday, February 17 at 10:30 am.

We hope you can join us!
