Gareth Doherty, “How Engaging the World Can Change Landscape Architecture”
Wednesday, 11 September
12:30 - 1:30pm
Frances Loeb Library Lobby
The critical challenges of our age, including climate adaptation and achieving social and racial equity, demand an in-depth understanding of human aspirations and limitations. Landscape architecture possesses a substantial claim and formidable responsibility on how to address these challenges effectively. Through examples from postcolonial societies in the Arabian Peninsula, the Caribbean, Ireland, Afro-Brazil, and the African continent, this talk will demonstrate how landscape fieldwork can generate new concepts to enrich our professional canon. By unraveling these conceptual approaches, we can enhance professional practice and move from thick description to thick prescription, offering innovative solutions to pressing global issues.
Sincerely,
Landscape Architecture
